    I'm in Canada and looking for olive wood I recently found a place in the states called Rare Wood Shop that seems to have olive wood at a reasonable price but I haven't checked out shipping costs yet. Have you ever heard of them. Thanks I will have to check KJP as another source.

    Skyler, beautiful results! Did you step through so many lower grits when you do boxes? I do not recall seeing you do that on a box. It is generally taught to go up by half…. Like 80, 120, 180 and 220. Not sure if the epoxy requires more steps.

    • @woodworkingwithSkyler
      @woodworkingwithSkyler 12 годин тому

      Hi Dian, When I do boxes I start with 120 , and stop at 400. Epoxy definitely needs a few extra steps otherwise you end up with visible scratches. Maybe you couls step it up by half but then might need to spend more time on same grit?

    What do use olive wood for. I have never heard of it before. Also, am ignorant as to what percentage moisture would be considered dry. What % are you looking for to be considered “good.?”

    • @woodworkingwithSkyler
      @woodworkingwithSkyler 2 дні тому

      I am looking for under 8 percent. Olive wood is one of the most beautiful woods in charcuterie boards, wooden bowls, utensils and such. It’s usually pretty pricey and as you can see it’s hard to find dry olive wood. I have about 40 olive boards I bought over the last year and they are not dry

      I was once told by the operator of a lumber mill that some folks place hardwoods in their attics to lower the moisture content, which acts as a kiln. Also wanted to try using a large thick wall PVC pipe, placing wood inside, sealing the ends of pipe, then applying a vacuum with a vacuum pump. I have the pipe, pump and wood but have never tried it yet. Just wanted to share those thoughts.

    Arm-R Seal is my favorite wood finish. We used it at a table shop I worked at. We built tables for a Wine bar in the shop and I got to see how it stood up in a restaurant setting. It worked amazingly. And I love that it is so easy to apply. I did not know that about the powder. That was super helpful. So is the ketchup bottle. I use those for my paint when I paint furniture. Thanks for sharing. And that’s a great looking table.

    I have lots of scraps and want to make some mosaic signs. This will work great for me. Both jigs are going to be super useful. But the first one… that really got me. I like how you put the strip across to hold things down. I always get nervous that small pieces like that will come out. And that’s a great sheild.

    It's the Virgo in me that screams about no gloves, no respirator, etc. My first week using resin, the fumes burned away all of my nose hair, and it turned the arms of my doll black. And that was with much smaller pieces than you created here. The swirls are beautiful. But if you're new to resin, please read about personal protective equipment (PPE) and the dangers of resin. Even the brands who claim to have no VOCs, have them.
